Stony Brook University invites applications for the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion and Growth plus (PRODiG ) Fellows Program, a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty position at the lecturer level to commence in Fall 2025 (2 positions). The program is designed to advance two goals: (1) increasing the number and share of excellent diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and (2) strengthening the pipeline for retention and support of these candidates. The fellow will be a part of a mentored research environment and, with successful performance and demonstrated contribution to inclusion, diversity, and equity, will be invited to join the tenure-track faculty at Stony Brook University after two years.

The successful candidate's primary appointment will be in one of the following departments: Applied Mathematics and Statistics, Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Informatics, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Material Science and Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Technology and Society. Candidates must have demonstrated plans to contribute to inclusion, diversity, and equity, excellence in innovative research, and potential to participate in the teaching mission of the Department they join. The successful candidate will be expected to be an effective interdisciplinary teacher and mentor at the undergraduate and graduate levels to guide research and professional development and be an active participant in community outreach activities.

We are interested in scholars with the potential to offer a critical perspective based on experience in or understanding of underserved groups underrepresented in higher education.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship. Ph.D. or relevant terminal degree (or foreign equivalent) from an accredited institution prior to a start date in hand by 9/1/2025 with specialization in one of the possible appointing departments or related field. A record of research related to one of the possible appointing departments or related field. Demonstrated personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic scholarly track record focused on diversity, equity and inclusion; work, volunteer/unpaid/community service; or related experience/expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and/or populations.

Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of or potential for excellence in research and service. Undergraduate and graduate teaching experience. Demonstrated proficiency in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across diverse fields.

Preference will be given to candidates who are:
  • Current SUNY students, alumni, and or Fellows.
  • From a low-income background (e.g. Pell-eligible as undergraduates), were first-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor's degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni or are veterans.
