Summary

The Natural and Social Sciences Department at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) Firelands College invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor in Biology. This nine-month, renewable faculty appointment will be based on the Bowling Green main campus and is primarily focused on teaching in the Pathway Program, beginning in August 2025.

The Pathway Program is a one-year transitional support initiative for first-year students who demonstrate potential for college success but benefit from additional academic and social support. This program helps students build a strong foundation for academic success at BGSU.

Essential Functions

Teach 12 credit hours per semester in general biology.

Online and evening teaching may be required.

Participate in professional development.

Participate in department, college, and university service activities.

Professional and courteous interactions with students, faculty, and staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in biology or a closely related discipline at the time of appointment.

Demonstrated potential for effective teaching in undergraduate biology courses, which may include graduate teaching assistantships, teaching evaluations, and supervisor/peer evaluations.

Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in both the classroom and the profession.

Appreciation for the value of cultural awareness and sensitivity in the workplace.

Proficiency in using computers and technology as instructional tools to enhance learning inside and outside the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching biology courses (lecture and lab) at the undergraduate level, including as an appointed faculty, adjunct faculty, or graduate student.

Evidence of teaching effectiveness, which may include but is not limited to teaching evaluations, peer evaluations, evidence of innovative teaching practices, and experience with online instruction in biology.

Experience employing dynamic, non-traditional teaching methods to engage students of varying proficiency levels and diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles.
