Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a full-time Faculty (unclassified) University Hospital Emergency Room (CDU2) Psychiatrist Open Rank position.
Job Summary:
The Adult Division in the Department of Psychiatry (DOP) has an opening for a full-time open rank position (Instructor through Professor) University Hospital Emergency Room (CDU2) Psychiatrist
The CDU2 psychiatrist will provide direct patient care in the emergency department. The psychiatrist is responsible for collaborating with other emergency department faculty and staff, other CDU2 psychiatrists, and APPs. The psychiatrist will also oversee residents and medical students rotating through the service. Shifts will consist of approximately 30 (0.75 FTE) of clinical/admin effort per week, averaged across each calendar month. The work structure will consist of a combination of six- and twelve-hour shifts including nights and weekends depending on CDU2/departmental need. The CDU2 psychiatrist will be exempt from the regular Department of Psychiatry call schedule.
This position involves evaluating and treating behavioral emergencies and substance intoxication and withdrawal in the emergency department alongside a team of behavioral health evaluators, nurses, emergency medicine physicians, APPs, residents, and medical students.
This position may be eligible for a one-time sign on bonus up to $10,000.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in attending rotation in ED service with flexible hours (including some weekends and nights)
- Determining the appropriate treatment of patients, monitoring them as needed, and determining disposition.
- This position requires familiarity with the use of chemical restraints, emergency medications, seclusion/restraint procedures, pharmacology for acute agitation, risk assessment, and treatment of substance intoxication and withdrawal.
- The CDU2 psychiatrist should be comfortable managing comorbid medical conditions via collaboration with the main emergency department attendings.
- Actively Contributes to Academic Advancement of his/her discipline.
- Keeps abreast of the latest developments in field, both academically and through applied skills

The ranks are based on how many years a candidate has been licensed and if they want to pursue the promotions track. Academic rank will be determined during the interview process after discussion between you and the department about your previous experience and academic desires.
This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, or Assistant Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:
Instructor
- 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
- Minimum degree qualifications: MD and/or DO
Sr. Instructor:
- 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
- Minimum degree qualifications: MD and/or DO
Assistant Professor:
- 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
- Minimum degree qualifications: MD and/or DO
Associate Professor:
- 4-7 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
- Minimum degree qualifications: MD and/or DO
Professor:
- 7+ years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
- Minimum degree qualifications: MD and/or DO

Anticipated Pay Range:
The salary range (or hiring range) per 1.0FTE is determined based on rank and education for this position and has been established at HIRING RANGE:
Instructor: $220,000 to $250,000
Senior Instructor: $220,000 to $250,000
Assistant Professor: $220,000 to $250,000
Associate Professor: $250,000 to $270,000
Professor: $280,000 to $310,000
This position is also eligible for a pay differential of $750.00 per month, per 0.3 FTE (1 day/week) for your work on the CDU2 Service totaling $2,500 a month. Differential is contingent upon work service in CDU2 for 1year and prorated by FTE. Should your FTE change, the differential rate will be adjusted.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
